How To Clean Chicco High Chair Cover

Author Message Anonymous

It says not to put it in the washing machine (and we don't have front-loading), but really... I can't imagine there's any other way to get it clean. It's gross. If we hadn't received it as a gift, we would return it and get the easy-to-clean Ikea Antilope chair.

We just wipe it often enough so it doesn't get gross...

Maybe our DS is a messier eater than yours... he does a lot of self-feeding, and there are so many little crevices in this high chair that it's impossible to clean it by just wiping alone...

You don't. Our highchair was always nasty.

I don't have that particular highchair, but with baby stuff my solution has been if it can't go in the washer, take it out on the deck and hose it down in the morning, then let it sit in the sun for a few hours. It works great for many things. Good luck!

We had the Chicco Mamma. It was nasty. I put it in the shower or took it outside. In a pinch, I would jam wet paper towels into crevices and let them sit there for a bit.

We got a new one before baby #2.

We have a Fisher Price chair and after DD threw up all over it I put it in the wash on delicate and let it hang dry and it was fine. But, what I have discovered is that DD doesn't really notice when the cushion isn't on the chair, so now we don't use it at all and cleaning is so much easier.

I am so glad I'm not the only one to have this problem- I thought I had just become a slob or something! It's a real pain to clean. I've taken to pouring hot soapy water on it and cleaning it with a sponge. Then I try to take it out and air dry, but that didn't really work that well because with the cooler temperatures it hasn't been getting dry. Tried blow drying it too but that didn't work great. For every day I just try to do what I can and live with it being a little nasty (which is SO NOT LIKE ME). When he throws up occasinally however- that's a real problem.

We occasionally take the whole thing apart. We then put the straps and buckles in a big pot of hot, soapy water for a while, then rinse and let air dry. And clean the seat parts with a spray cleaner and water and the hard plastic seat the same way. It's gross what accumulates under there, but this method works pretty well.

I get a wet dishrag and wipe the chair down right after feeding. If the food doesn't dry on, it comes off pretty easily, so once you are in the habit, it's not bad. Sometimes I use a little windex on it. Every three months or so, it accumulates enough that I take the straps off and soak those and then let them dry and hose the rest off in the yard.

Based on DS1, I'd say there are a maybe six months where the combination of self-feeding, swatting spoons full of baby food, etc. get really messy. After that, things settle down and the biggest problem becomes what the baby decides to heave overboard entirely.

You chuck it and get one of those Fisher Price ones with the tray that goes in the dishwasher and the cover that goes in the dishwasher. Best thing I ever did. Let the machines do it for ya! My DD is a MESSY eater.

I had one with my last child and it was horrible! It was impossible to to get the crud out of the corners!! And the seam that runs along the tray would get crap in it and I'd have to use my finger nail to pick it out....horrifying.

I chucked it and got one of those $20 white ones from Ikea and we love it!

Take it outside and hose it down.

I never realized that you weren't supposed to put it in the washing machine so I have done that and it comes out just fine. I don't put it in the dryer, though. It is nearly impossible to get the crud out of the crevices... every once in a while I'll work on it with a toothpick but it's a royal pain.... usually my son eats in a dirty chair.
